Calicut
Kozhikode, also known as Calicut in English, is located on the shores of the Arabian Sea in North Kerala and is the 3rd largest city in Kerala. It was capital of the powerful Zamorins, the erstwhile rulers of the area and an important center of trade and commerce in the early period. Historical records show that the Calicut maintained close commercial relations with Arabs, Jews, Romans and even the Chinese. Kozhikode is bordered by Kannur district in the North, Wayanad in the East, Malappuram in the south and the Arabian Sea in the West.

Vasco Da Gama was the first European traveler to visit Kerala and he landed at Kappad beach in Kozhikode in the year 1498. A monument has been built to commemorate his historical arrival.

Kozhikode presently is a centre of spices and hill produce trade in the country and produces and exports such commodities as pepper coconut, coffee, rubber, lemon grass oil etc.

According to data compiled by economics research firm Indicus Analytics on residences, earnings and investments, Kozhikode ranked as the second best city in India to reside in. Indicus considered six parameters – health, education, environment, safety, public facilities and entertainment – for preparing their 'reside-in' index of livability.

By Road
Calicut is highly accessible by the road and is connected to all major cities in Kerala as also to major cities in the country like Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mangalore, Mysore, etc. There are several private buses that provide long distance bus services in addition to the government run KSRTC buses. Taxis, auto rickshaws and ordinary/deluxe/luxury coach services are also available

By Rail
Kozhikode is well connected with all major cities in the country through the railway network. One can board trains to important destinations in the country like Mangalore, Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Poona etc from Kozhikode railway station

By Air

There is an international airport at Kozhikode, located at a distance of 25 kms from Calicut city that operates both domestic and international flights. There are flights to all major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Goa etc from Calicut as also to several Middle East countries from Calicut.
